In alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 1 No Poverty, which aims to eradicate poverty in all its forms by 2030, the African Skilled Youth Advocacy for Sustainable Development (ASYASD), led by Dr. Yewande Omikunle, continues to champion grassroots empowerment initiatives.

Recently, the ASYASD team conducted a feasibility study in Uke community, Nasarawa State, focusing on empowering vulnerable women within the community. The visit included the distribution of essential foodstuffs aimed at providing immediate relief and supporting local families in need.

This initiative reflects ASYASD’s deep commitment to reducing poverty by enhancing social protection and ensuring equitable access to necessities. Through targeted community engagement, ASYASD seeks to foster sustainable livelihoods and promote economic inclusion for those most at risk.

Dr. Yewande Omikunle emphasised that tackling poverty requires both strategic policy advocacy and hands-on community action. “Empowering women is central to breaking the cycle of poverty and driving long-term development,” she stated.

ASYASD’s ongoing efforts in Nasarawa State exemplify the tangible progress being made toward achieving SDG 1 and uplifting vulnerable populations across Nigeria.
